Here is a great video about how electric bikes can help people achieve their dreams. Paul Dieter lives in Seattle, Washington, and dreamed of becoming a bike commuter – but he faced some challenges. In this video, Paul explains how ebikes proved to be the solution, and how his FLX Trail electric bike has changed his life for the better. (Video published here with Paul’s kind permission.)
Paul is a life-long cyclist. In his youth, he rode for recreation, general transportation, and touring. While in the Peace Corps in the Philippines, he had a mountain bike built for him in Manila. Later he used that mountain bike for transportation at his site in Mtn. Province. Then followed something that happens to so many of us: a hiatus from cycling caused by life’s circumstances, such as work and location.
Now 59, Paul wanted to start cycling again, and he hoped to achieve his life-long dream of becoming a bike commuter. But something had happened along the way: he got older! For most people, getting older means we have to give up some of our athletic pursuits because our bodies are no longer up to it. Or we go for a bike ride and our knees hurt for two weeks, and we give up in despair. Paul had not only gotten older, but he was also living on one of the highest points of Seattle. Then he discovered ebikes, and everything changed. He instantly knew he had found the solution.

Paul got himself a beautiful FLX Trail – a very high quality ebike that has great range, and looks great too. He is a big fan of the FLX brand, as he has found the company to be very supportive.
Thanks to his FLX ebike, Paul has achieved his dream of becoming a bike commuter. The electric assist has opened up the whole city to him, and his bike commute is the highlight of his day. He has been able to explore many of the beautiful bike rides around Seattle. Also, Paul now finds it much easier to access and participate in events in Seattle, now that he does not have to deal with heavy traffic or finding parking. Beset of all, as he puts it: “Hills don’t matter!” In short, Paul has re-discovered the joy of cycling, and found an efficient way to commute as well, thanks to electric bikes.
Paul tries to share the joy by getting friends – and even strangers – to try out his ebike. He says the reaction is almost universal: everyone loves their first experience of ebiking, and finds the experience exhilarating.
Paul is also a talented artist, and you can check out his work at Paul Dieter Art Collections.
I love stories like this, as they remind me of the very best thing about electric bikes – they make cycling possible for and accessible to many more people, and that’s a wonderful thing!
