Here’s a Guest Post from William Morrison, who wants to tell you about the fast, powerful, and affordable electric cargo bike he is promoting on Kickstarter – the Morrison Electric Cargo Bike!
My name is William Morrison, I live in Los Angeles, have two kids and don’t own a car! I built my first electric cargo bike over a decade ago to use as a clean running camera platform for a marathon in France. I brought that bike home and something unexpected happened … For the most part, I stopped driving my car!
That electric bike had a 350 watt mid-drive motor, and although it got the job done it wasn’t cut out for serious commuting with its limited power and speed. I started to imagine what it would be like to get rid of my car altogether. The result of that thought process and a lot of research was the prototype for the Morrison Electric Cargo Bike.
I crafted my electric cargo bike to be powerful, quick, and able to go long distances as well as haul a lot of weight. The result has been so successful that I want to share it with the rest of the world. My Morrison Electric Cargo Bike has been my sole means of transport in Los Angeles for two years – and I live in a very hilly part of the city.
The Morrison Electric Cargo Bike has a 50+ mile range with light pedaling (based on real life experience, not statistics), can easily reach the maximum legal speed of 28 mph (California’s legal speed for pedal assisted electric bikes), and has no problem climbing big hills under heavy load. I have been riding the prototype Morrison Electric Cargo Bike for over two years in LA and have put 30,000+ hard miles on it with heavy cargo and lots of passengers.
My goal with the KickStarter campaign is to make available a fully featured electric cargo bike that is very fast and powerful at a considerably lower price point than other bikes in this space. There will be two models. The Model M (mid-drive) Morrison Electric Cargo Bike will feature a Bafang BBSHD mid drive motor.
The Model F (front hub) Morrison Electric Cargo Bike is essentially the prototype.
Please take a look at the KickStarter Morrison Electric Cargo Bike campaign for much more information, and thanks for taking the time to check it out!
